Grain handling options

Grain loading and grain cargo transportation in twenty-foot containers greatly simplifies the logistics of such cargoes. When transporting grain this way, there is no need to store it in warehouses, and the grain loading and shipping can take place on the weekly basis.

Usually, 24 to 27 tons of cargo are loaded into containers, depending on the relative weight. And although the volume of a twenty-foot container totals about 33 cubic meters, in reality the container can hold up to 30-32 cubic meters.

How is grain cargo handled?

Before storing or transferring a grain cargo into containers, the inspection of the cargo takes place. During the inspection, the quality of the grain cargo is determined, checking whether it is free of pests or impurities.

After that, the cargoes of grain origin are unloaded into warehouses, and the monitoring of the cargo and accreditation of the wagons at the Klaipėda or Draugystė stations takes place. Having the cargo unloaded, the empty wagons are sent back. The delivery of the cargo is carried out using dump trucks.

Grain can be loaded into shipping containers in several ways: by pouring grain with a bucket loader after converting a container at the angle of a certain degree. A container can also be converted using special devices, after which the container is filled up with grain by the means of a special loader. This is the most optimal and safest method of loading grain.

Smart Shipping, UAB organises all stages of the grain handling process: the delivery of grain cargo, determination of cargo quality and other data, selection and installation of containers, fumigation, chartering and formalisation of required documentation.
